First Head Lice

I hate head lice. So today what do I find in my four year olds hair. You guessed it head lice!

We were getting ready for school and I was just about to put her hair up and she itched her head. So I looked at her hair and there they were the little tiny lice, ewwwww.
So instead of going to school we headed for the pharmacy to get the products to get rid of them. This is the first day that my daughter has had to miss school.

Once we got to the pharmacy I had to ask what to get as having never had to buy these products before I didn't know what one to buy.
I was allergic to most of these products when I was a kid so we used vinager when I got head lice.

The lovey lady told me that they now do a new product that contains no pestasides and that it is make up baced, which drowns them. I went with that one and used rubber gloves while treating my daughters hair. I have now done a skin test on myself and have not reacted yet but I do have to wait for 24 hours before I will know.

But why does it take all morning to treat when it says 15 mins on the box?  Well I will tell you.

5 mins to put on her hair and my daughter only has shoulder lengh and it is quite thin. It will take longer on think or long hair.

15 mins for the product to work just like it states on the box.

15 to 30 mins to wash the product out of her hair.

Finally it is about 1 hour combing out all the dead lice and nits. You could do this quicker but I wanted to make sure I got as meny of the nits (the eggs that are glued to the hair by the lice) as possible so there would be less of a chance that she could get re infested by them.

Even so I have to repeat the above prosses in a weeks time. I will be combing her hair with the nit comb every day after school from now on.

Lucky for me she reacts very quickly to the lice when they bite her. Her hair was checked on Sunday while she was having a bath, I always check her hair when she has a bath now she goes to school. She must have picked the lice up on Monday or yesterday at school.

After treatment I counted how meny lice that came out of her hair and it was only 10 but there were very meny full eggs ready to hatch.

Lets hope she doesn't get them again for awhile.

Welcome Sushi

We are please to welcome our newest member of our family Sushi,  (aka Somer as she was known at www.woodgreen.org.uk), age 4, we chose her a couple of weekends ago now. But we could not bring her home that day as she had not seen the vet and the center at Heydon could not let us have her until her vet check.

So we had to wait, then the snow came and what would have been a pick up on Tuesday turned into a pick up on Thursday, before the big snow arrived on the Friday.

When we got her home she fled upstairs and under our bed. Where she stayed only coming out to go to the litter tray and for food.
She is a bit of a fat cat so she is now on a weight loss programe. No more food just left out and topped up, she now has two weighed meals a day at set times.

Sushi is a very affectionate cat but she dose not like load noises. I tested the smoke and carbon monoxide alarms yesterday and the noise made her run in to the smallest place she could find to hide.

She has settled in very well and gets on better with Baskerville our kitten than Jezebell did. They even sleep together but with about 5 inches apart.

My daughter has decieded that Sushi should have the same birthday as her because she is also 4 and as we don't have an exact date of birth for her my daughter has got her way.

One of the pics below is her as a one week old kitten.

Snow

We have snow... I love the snow, but my daughter does not. On the walk home from church this morning all we had was whining. 'it too cold', 'the snow is getting in my face' and the like.

If I had my way we would be out there now trying to build a snowman. My son on the other hand loves it but instead of a snowman he wants to make a snow Audi!!! His car obssesion taking over.

I am hoping the school is open tomorrow. I should find out at about 7ish tomorrow morning when the school sends out a text message to all parents that use parentmail, a very good email system that means I get all letters direct to my email and don't have to find them in my daughters school bag.

But back to the snow, I might try to get out in the back garden later to try and make that snowman.

RIP our fluffy old friend

Our lovely old fluffy girl Jezebel has gone to the litter box in the sky or the rainbow bridge.

She got very ill over the last month and we thought she was being feed milk by some one on her daily outings. As this would normally give her a runny bottom, she was alergic to milk.

We miss her so much
